It was Friday night.... or, more specifically, Family Fun Friday Night. The girls were asking what we were going to do, and I told them to have a quick bath with Papa and get ready for bed while I made a special dessert to go with our games.
The bath bought me an extra 15 minutes. An idea popped into my head. We love to make popovers at our house, and they are very simple! We had a thing of Cool Whip in the freezer, and a box of pudding in the cupboard. That was it!
I once made some Pampered Chef dessert with Cool Whip and pudding. I just put 2 cups milk, the frozen Cool Whip, and the box of pudding in my Kitchen Aid and beat it for a few minutes, then stuck it in the fridge. For the popovers, I mixed 2 eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 cup flour, and 1/2 tsp. salt. Pour into a greased muffin tin and bake @350 for 25 minutes. Last, I squirted the pudding mixture in, and it was so simple, so easy... and SO yummy! A huge hit! Best of all, there was plenty of time for our games...
This is the deli meat we buy for our family from Costco:
I think I have a stack of these containers to last me a lifetime. So, why am I sharing this with you? Because I just realized yet another use for them. Are you ready? I was quite proud of this:
The little signs on top are perfect little dry erase boards!! I am now thinking of ways to make them even cuter.. but I have too many other little to-do projects in my head. I think I will let this one go as a clever idea that I actually thought of and didn't steal borrow from another blog.
Today's fun is brought to you by Everyday Art. I just came across this activity and thought it was simple and fun -- You mix whole milk with food coloring and oil, then dip a q-tip into clear soap and stick it in to watch the separation. The girls played for about 20 minutes, and then they were done. They were more into pretending the q-tips were people, than the atual color separation thing, but either way it was entertainment! :)
Our butterflies are here! We've been watching them for about a week now. Unfortunately, the second one came out of the chrysalis with broken wings, and only lasted a few days. The remaining 4 are thriving. As soon as the weather warms up a bit, we'll be sending them off to enjoy the fresh spring air. Our girls can't wait for the big release!
We had a fun, fun day with our good friends. From 9:ooam until almost 4:00pm, the kids played without fighting. For that reason alone, it was a dream of a day! (More like a miracle!) Most of the day was spent outside running around. It began with bikes and snail hunts...
Poor Sierra was left behind in the dust. Fortunately, she didn't mind a bit. She had a blast running around and trying to follow along.
Instead of poor Sierra, I should say poor snails. We took the advice of Karen who commented on a previous post that I could paint the shells....
I don't think she meant to drown them in paint. Anyway, they were soon squashed as we played bubbles next.
Honestly, I was shocked at how long they could play bubbles. Perhaps it was because it's the first of the season. I almost suggested another activity after about 30 minutes, but then I thought... "Why interupt a good thing?"
Once again, Sierra was perfectly content to just play in the puddles. She was even more excited when she found this triangle stamp to use!
I couldn't take pictures of all our games of tag, because I was mostly "it." Who needs a gym membership with boys around?
Before going in for lunch, we played, "beach baseball." Basically, baseball with a beach ball and tennis racket. Hey, you gotta use what you have! Personally, I think it's a lot more fun. With the big ball, the kids get a hit 95% of the time!
The kids played a little Wii before lunch. I had to laugh at the next picture. Poor T was not happy about getting knocked out in boxing by a girl. I let him know she beats her daddy, too!
After lunch, it was time to build our marble run. (What else do you do when Grandma brings you a bag of tp rolls? -- love you, Mom! :) ) Actually, the inspiration for this project came from Frugal Family Fun. Allison was my tape girl. Of course, I don't actually have any marbles, so bouncy balls had to do.
I don't think the kids minded a bit!
The finished project turned out pretty cool. The kids played with it over, and over, and over, and... you get the idea!
Here Natalie and D are testing out one phase of it. Overall, it was an awesome day. But now -- I am exhausted!!
