MAC Update

Remember MAC? It's been over a month now, and it is definitely worth an update. Of course, we still get the "back-handed" compliments -- (Is that the right term?) The girls still do things just to earn a stick. However, that seems pretty normal to me. But, I have to tell you...

This has been a lifesaver! The difference it has made in my girls' attitude is astonishing! As you can see, they did not earn their 20 stickers last month. (They were only shy one sticker!) It was so hard not to manipulate so that they would earn a stick that last day, but it wouldn't be worth it. So, now we are on month 2. Today was the first day they didn't get a sticker, but overall they were still so much better than they were a month ago!

If you are thinking of doing this, here are some things I learned:
  • Having one can for ALL kids is key -- they have to learn to work together. You want them to encourage each other towards a blue stick, not tell mom the other needs a black stick!
  • Be consistent and firm. If they don't get a sticker the first day, they will learn. It's ok!
  • This may not be the right system for you or your kids. It is for me because I asked God for an idea, and this is what I got. Be specific in your prayers to God. Tell Him exactly what you are dealing with, where you need help, and beg Him to give you your own idea. "...The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." James 5:16b
